Being a part of ministries in different churches for years now, I have seen my fair share of the politics in ministry. I have seen many friends and fellow youth workers get unfair treatment and even let go for reasons beyond my understanding.
My mother was worried for me to go into ministry so she made sure to constantly remind me to have something to fall back on. I didnt take that advice. I believe this is where God has called me for now and that He will always take care of me.
But this did get me thinking. I have an idea. Stay with me.
Being a big sports fan, I watch how sports organizations deal with their employees. There are trades, free agency, contracts, signing bonuses, and more.
What if the church was the same way?
What if youth pastors were signed on to the church team with a contract? This would give them time to have a chance to be successful in their ministry.
Example: I will hire you to work with the Jr. high. The contract will be 3 years, 34,000 a year. After the 3 years, the church could extend the contract or release the youth pastor into free agency.
Or there could be trades.
If Joe isnt working out at his church and Bill is working out at his, the churches could make a trade.
You could even have a draft, where the college graduates would have a chance to be placed in a ministry.
This could be the dumbest idea ever or the greatest.

I am a free agent in the church circuit, but not the school circuit. How does that work?
Love it!
