I'm always in trouble...

I was setting up for the Jr. High service on Sunday Morning. Now, I like my church. There are a lot of great people in my church, but there are some very, very, very, very, conservative people as well. I thought I was conservative.
I set up the game, dance dance revolution for jr. high and one of the volunteer staff who was leading worship got up in front of the students and said "I would never allow that game in my house." Now I was stunned. Its one thing to say it to me in private, but not from the stage. And unfortunately, if I get upset I sometimes respond with a smart elic comment. After he said that, I responded with "Well its a good thing we are in Gods house then. He loves dancing."

Looks like I might of lost a great volunteer.

Now that would have been funny, but annoying without your reply. But your reply makes it awesome. Side note - make sure you talk to the dude so that doesn't start festering (now that's a word we don't use very often).

Me being well me I would have lit that guy up like a christmas tree.

Would you also have put presents underneath him?

When I read this I instantly smiled because that was a pretty witty remark. I smiled and then I thought of how that could have been a little discouraging for you. I hope it didn't discourage you in your ministry. People will always have their opinions. Keep on truckin'. You are making a difference in the lives of those students.

CLASSIC comeback. Probably as poorly timed as the original quip, but classic nonetheless. Follow up with him. Remind him of three things:
1) He's a much needed volunteer
2) There are much more appropriate ways to voice his concerns
3) You have a friend who will 'light him up like a christmas tree'.
